Materials - Built to LastUpdated a day ago

Dickies uses many materials to provide high quality products.

Duck

Strong linen or cotton fabric, used chiefly for casual or work clothes. The term "duck" comes from the Dutch word "doek." Duck is known for being a tan or brown color, but it can be dyed to be any color.

Sanded Duck

Duck fabric that has been worn down to make it softer and provide some ease of movement.

Twill

Twill is not a type of raw material. Twill is how the material is sewn together. When a fabric is "twill," the fabric is woven so it has a surface of diagonal parallel ridges.

Mechanical Stretch Twill

Mechanical stretch does NOT necessarily mean the fabric is stretchy!

Mechanical stretch means the fabric was stretched by machines to make the fabric offer a wider range of motion and be more breathable. Mechanical stretch fabrics are also inherently softer and wrinkle resistant. It may have some stretch to it, but will not be the main purpose of this fabric.

Poplin

Poplin is a type of twill. It is extremely lightweight and is often used for summer products. It is notably used in many of our Dickies coveralls due to its breathability.

Rip Stop

A fabric that is woven in a cross-hatch pattern so that a tear will not spread.

Fleece

A material resembling a sheep's woolly covering. A soft warm fabric with a texture similar to sheep's wool, used as a lining material.

High Pile Fleece

A synthetic fabric with a long, thick pile, similar to faux fur, imitation lamb wool or fleece. Sometimes this term is used as simply "fleece" and may have formerly been called "sherpa fleece."

Taffeta

A fine lustrous silk or similar synthetic fabric with a crisp texture. Dickies often uses taffeta for jackets or for lining jackets.

Pique

Pronounced "pee-kay." A stiff fabric, typically cotton, woven in a raised pattern like a waffle weave for our Dickies polo shirts.

Flannel

A soft-woven fabric, typically made of wool or cotton and in a classic design with multiple colors.

Thermal Knit

A waffle weave fabric typically used to make thermal underwear

Chambray

Pronounced "sham-bray." This is a fabric made with interwoven white yarn and a different colored yarn, typically blue. When this happens, it may even look like denim.
